The purple-colored 2007 The Scooter Merlot was aged in 20% new oak for 11 months. It exhibits an alluring nose of cedar, spice box, violets, cassis, and black currants. Layered and ripe on the palate, it has enough structure to evolve for 1-2 years. This lengthy effort over-delivers for its modest price. It might even help restore Merlot’s tattered reputation.
