Castello di Monsanto Chianti Classico Riserva 2006
Castello di Monsanto
Made from grapes from a further selection, first in the vineyard and afterward in the winery, this Riserva consists of Sangiovese (90%) and Canaiolo and Colorino (10%). It has excellent potential for aging. This wine is widely distributed on the domestic and international markets.
Wine Advocate
The estate’s 2006 Chianti Classico Riserva is delicious. Black cherries, herbs, tobacco and spices come together in a dark, brooding expression of Sangiovese framed by big, massive tannins. This finish is long and intense. Today the wine requires serious patience, but there is little question that it will be superb in a few years time. I can’t wait to see what Monsanto has done with its top of the line Il Poggio in this vintage. In the meantime, the 2006 Chianti Classico Riserva is a highlight; and a terrific value as well. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2026.

With 10% Canaiolo, this Sangiovese-based Riserva opens with very pristine fruit and berry aromas followed by delicate shadings of leather and spice. The integration is terrific and so is the freshness of the finish.

Sustainable practices incorporate organic standards and may exceed them and include ecologically and socially sound business practices such as fair pay for farm workers and energy conservation.
Screw Cap
Wines sealed with a screw cap as opposed to a cork, which experts report protects and preserves wine more effectively than does a cork, while also eliminating the possibility of cork taint.
No Sulfites
All wines naturally contain some sulfites, however wines that contain less than 10 parts per million sulfites are not required to include "Contains Sulfites" on their labels.

I still believe it is the simplest way to rate a wine, with its origins from grade school in the United States. A wine that I rate 90 points or more is outstanding (A), and worth buying. If I rate a wine 95 points or more (A+), it is a must buy.
